    Description

    Ridgways China Mug, SCENES FROM COACHING DAYS AND COACHING WAYS, Vintage, brown.
    Condition is very good considering its age. There are no chips or cracks. There are spots on the bottom which come from firing in the kiln. Measures 4".
    This Second Coach Series line of pottery dates from 1890 to 1920.
    The mug
    features scenes from routes along old English stagecoach roads.
    Cup is marked on the base with “Scenes from Coaching Days & Coaching Ways by Special Permission of Macmillan & Co. Ltd. Ridgway England”.
    A silver luster is applied to the handles and rims. Crazing (crackling) occurs because of the type of glaze used on the pottery.
    The Coaching Days and Coaching Ways series was created on amber brown pottery with black transfers. The series features illustrations about coaching and coach houses.
    The coaches traveled between inns and villages in England.
    The series was produced on mugs, tankards, plates, pitchers, serving pieces and various other everyday items used throughout the British Empire.
